The new 2018 F-150 has been creating a buzz since recently arriving here in Bismarck. It packs an impressive list of improvements over the previous model year. Take it for a test drive and you'll feel the power this truck delivers.
In part 1 of this 3-part series, we covered the design and styling of this leader of the pickup pack.
Here in part 2, we've got all the details on the 2018 F-150's performance and handling -- and there's a lot to talk about, so let's get started!
Ford's engineers improve this pickup every year, constantly pushing the competition. They've done just that again, this time with a more potent engine line up than ever -- including five engine choices for your new 2018 F-150.
For 2018, the previous 6-speed gearbox is replaced with a 10-speed automatic transmission, offering selectable driving modes:
This performance-enhancing feature is included with 2.7L EcoBoost® V6 (325 horsepower and 400 lb. - ft. of torque) , 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 (375 horsepower and 470 lb. - ft. of torque), and the 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 (395 horsepower and 400 lb. - ft. of torque.
Paired with Progressive Range Select and SelectShift manual mode on all models, you'll see improved off-road and on-road performance, all while improving your gas mileage.
No matter which of the 5 powerful engines you choose for your new 2018 F-150, you'll be driving smart with the Auto Start-Stop Technology. This eco-friendly tool helps reduce fuel consumption and vehicle tailpipe emissions during city driving by switching off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop, and immediately restarting once the brake is released.
As always, your F-150 is designed just for you, and the Start-Stop Technology has a shut-off feature if you don't need it.
Let's talk about towing. After all, your 2018 F-150 is going to be working hard, just like you.
When properly equipped, the F-150 can tow more than any other pickup in it's class -- up to 13,200 lbs. conventional tow and 12,100 lbs. 5th wheel tow.
When you need to tow your F-150, all models with 4x4 and automatic transmission offer four-wheel-down capability.
The 2018 Ford F-150 has a more potent engine lineup than ever, but that's just the beginning. Ford engineers always have bigger and better plans, and the 3.0L Power Stroke® V6 Turbo Diesel engine will be available spring 2018.
